To celebrate 800 years since the bull of foundation of the Dominican Order by Pope Honorius III, the Albertus will be offering a series of three talks this autumn on Dominican influence on the teaching of the sciences. Lectures will be chaired by Dr Sara Parvis, Senior Lecturer in Early Church History at the School of Divinity, University of Edinburgh.  See the main Albertus website here for up-to-date details.

Whilst lectures are free, we suggest a donation of a £5 for each lecture to cover costs. Tea and coffee will be available after the talk and questions. They will be located in The Garden Room, St Albert's Catholic Chaplaincy, Edinburgh, EH8 9LD


Talk 1:
Science before Galileo? Early Dominican Physics.

This lecture by Rev Dr Peter Hunter O.P. will be the first talk in this series. Fr Peter teaches philosophy at Blackfriars, Oxford.

Talk 2:
Making something out of 'a whole lot of nothing': the Dominican contribution to teaching philosophy.

The lecture by Fr John O'Connor O.P. on "Making something out of 'a whole lot of nothing': the Dominican contribution to teaching philosophy" will be the second talk in this series.

Talk 3:
The third and final lecture will be held on Monday 7 November 2016. The lecture entitled "God is not a thing!': Science and religion debates among young Catholics today', will be given by Michael O'Duffin, who is a member of the Glasgow Lay Dominicans.

The next Albertus Institute conference on Saturday 26th November 2016 is  Modern Security and Human Values : The Changing Face of Conflict. It will take place in the Appleton Tower and Informatics Department of the University of Edinburgh.
